Since 2015, JR Biotek Foundation has been strengthening scientific capacity across Africa through practical training, mentorship, leadership development, and international collaboration. Today, through AGRIIP (Agri-Innovation & Impact Platform), we are building on that foundation by connecting scientists, farmers, entrepreneurs, institutions, and communities to advance indigenous crops and strengthen resilient food systems.

Our Story
From One Scientist’s Vision to a Continental Movement
Founded in 2015 by Dr Carol N. Ibe, JR Biotek Foundation was created in response to two interconnected challenges: the need to strengthen scientific capacity across Africa and the need to ensure research delivers meaningful benefits for farming communities.
What began as a commitment to equip African scientists with advanced skills and international opportunities has grown into a pan-African network of researchers, educators, innovators, volunteers, and partners working together to translate science into real-world impact.
Today, the Foundation is entering its next chapter through AGRIIP, connecting scientific excellence with farmer knowledge, innovation, entrepreneurship, and partnerships to strengthen Africa’s indigenous and underutilised crops.
Over the past decade, the Foundation has:
Trained 330+ agricultural scientists in 100+ research institutions across 25+ African countries through hands-on programmes
Engaged 700+ smallholder farmers and agricultural extension professionals in Nigeria.
Reached 45,000+ learners through digital education.
Built partnerships across Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
